“Wire to wire finishes” are near impossible in poker tournaments, but Michael McGuinness (Toms River, NJ) did just that in winning Event 1 of the Deep Stacks Challenge.
McGuinness was pegged as an early chip leader and was seemingly always one of the bigger stacks in the room en route to a Final Table in which he knocked out multiple players and bossed from beginning to end, using his aggressive style and big stack to grind down the opposition.
This is McGuinness’ first rated victory at The Borgata, and he came close this summer, finishing 3rd in a Borgata Summer Poker Open event.
McGuinness adds to his hardware collection, as he won a WSOP Circuit Ring in 2012.
This cash also puts McGuinness above the $100,000 mark in live tournament earnings, and this is the biggest cash he’s had since his WSOPC victory.
That wraps up the Event 1 Deep Stacks Challenge coverage for tonight. Both play and blog coverage will resume tomorrow at 11 AM with the Event 2 – $150 + $30 – $15K GTD – Deep Stack NLH.
