Andrew Klein - Deep Stacks Challenge Event 3 Champion

Andrew Klein – Deep Stacks Challenge Event 3 Champion

The yell as the river card fell would say it all as Andrew Klein would take down the Event 3 Deep Stacks Championship title adding to his already impress Borgata tournament resume, finally becoming a two-time Borgata champion after winning a Fall Poker Open event last November and then coming painstakingly close to another in last month’s Winter Poker Open.

Klein looked like he would be coming close and falling short again, as he entered heads up play with Todd Bunting with a huge chip disadvantage but he’d leave no doubt as he battled back to even and then took out one of Bunting’s legs before laying the knockout blow.

The action was picked up on a board of {8c}{6s}{Js}{Qs} with Klein betting out and Bunting moving all-in.

Klein had him covered but the decision was more or less for his tournament life as well because he’d be left with 10 big blinds if he were to call and be wrong.

He’d call and he’d be right at the moment holding {Qd}{6h} for two pair, but Bunting held {As}{7d} and was drawing to the nut flush.

The river would brick out though and Klein would give out a celebratory yell as he had finally gotten what he believed was rightfully his, a second Borgata Poker championship.

As stated earlier in today’s coverage, Klein has had an amazing last six months of poker, perhaps the best of his career and we’ve been profiling him since the Summer Poker Open as he continues to support his claim that he is the “best poker playing athlete on the planet”.

His challenge, issued a few years ago, puts Klein’s lifetime poker earnings, close to $250,000, up in a multi-sport contest with the winner of the 13 game series taking the money and the “best poker playing athlete” title.

So far, no one has stepped up to the plate and with Klein turning 55 years old within the next year and a half, he’s finally issuing an ultimatum.

“I’m retiring as the best if nobody takes my challenge, I’ll tweak the challenge once I turn 55 and make it a per sport contest instead of a 13 round series, but until somebody challenges me I’m keeping my title as the best poker playing athlete.”

Regardless of whether he is challenged or not, Klein will still hold at least two titles, as he’s won his second Borgata Poker title here in Event 3 of the Deep Stacks Challenge.
