Steve Dodge (Ranshaw, PA)
After nearly 16 hours of play, the Deep Stack Challenge has crowned Steve Dodge (Ranshaw, PA) as it’s first champion.
Steve outlasted 270 entrants to claim the first trophy of the series and the $9,166 for first place.
Steve said, “he really wanted to win that trophy” to justify why he plays poker and that he didn’t “get here and get to that final table by mistake.” He also enjoys poker because it allows him a relaxing alternative to his daily job as a truck driver.
Steve had some hiccups along the way, getting chopped down by shorter stacks numerous times, but always seemed to regain his footing and chip up after each set back.
Steve will be sitting atop the Leaderboard Challenge as the Deep Stack Challenge continues tomorrow with Event 2 – $150 + $50 Deep Stack NLH $15,000 Guaranteed, which begins at 11 AM.

Well, he’s getting towards the end of a “work day” now and using his “zen” to put Steve Dodge to the test time after time.
Pete has moved all-in over top of Steve’s button raises and shown arguably rags numerous time, claiming that “45 suited is his Jones Beach”.

Immediately following Messina’s exit in 4th, Chris Deoliveriria was all-in and at risk holding {Kd}{2c} against the {Ah}{As} of Pete Viverito.
Pete, who has been playing a loose aggressive game at the Final Table, actually “had it” this time and Chris couldn’t believe it.
The board ran out {10s}{6d}{7c}{10c}{6c}, and Deoliverira was sent to the rail in 3rd, good for a $3,110 score.

Al Messina
Event 1 has been stuck at four players for a few levels now, and it seemed that the field would be down to three before Al Messina worked some magic on the river against Steve Dodge for the second time in as many levels.
Messina moved all-in for his final 685,000 and was called by Dodge in the small blind.
Messina: {7c}{5c} Dodge: {As}{Js}
Flop: {Kc}{6d}{4d}
Turn: {Jh}
River: {3c}
Dodge said it perfectly that he (Messina) “flopped the world” and he ended up hitting his up and down straight draw on the river.
Messina is back up over the 1,000,000 mark with 20 minutes remaining in Level 30.

Steve Dodge (Northumberton, PA)
Al Messina limped from the button, Pete Viverito completed from the small blind and Steve Dodge checked in the small blind and three players saw a flop of {6c}{8h}{Qs}.
Viverito checked and Dodge bet out 300,000. Messina folded and Viverito called.
The turn was the {7h} and Viverito screamed out “Yes!” the second the card hit the felt. He then checked and Dodge, after shooting Viverito a glare, bet out 400,000. Viverito called.
The {7s} came on the river and Viverito checked, and Dodge instantly announced all-in. Viverito shook his head and folded saying how big of a swing the hand was.
But, he was glad he didn’t make the call, as Dodge showed {Qx}{7x} before taking in the pot.
It was, as Steve Dodge is sitting with over 2,000,0000 and is now the chip leader at the four handed final table.
